  • An ultrasound is a non-invasive scan that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce live images of organs, tissues, and blood flow — without any radiation.

  • Ultrasound is commonly used to assess:

    • Pregnancy development

    • Abdominal organs (liver, kidneys, gallbladder)

    • Pelvic health

    • Blood vessels and circulation (vascular studies)

    • Muscles, tendons, and soft tissue (MSK scans)

  • Yes — ultrasound is completely safe and painless. It’s widely used during pregnancy and poses no known risks to patients.

  • Preparation varies depending on the type of scan:

    • Pelvic pregnancy, and renal scans: Full bladder may be required

    • Abdominal scans: You may need to fast for several hours

    • Other scans: Usually no preparation is needed
      We’ll give you specific instructions when you book.

  • Ultrasound exams usually take between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the area being scanned.

  • Except for obstetric ultrasounds, the majority of ultrasounds are bulk billed for valid medicare card holders.

  • You can book online or contact our team by phone. A valid referral from your GP or specialist is required.
